Family History

Rooted in Resourcefulness: Since the early 1900’s our family has scraped by, building and crafting unique products, businesses, and experiences out of whatever was available. From repurposing military surplus gear, straightening old nails, foraging for old brick and stone, handcrafting, shaping, and assembling by blood sweat, and tears. With no desire to leave behind a legacy, they created it out of necessity. We, like them… just want to help folks get more sauna for less because we’re drawn to a creative or artistic challenge. This path will certainly be curvy, rocky, and difficult, and the road less traveled for a reason… but we embrace it. We are emboldened by struggle. The results are so much more rewarding, and the stories are so much more fun to tell.

Stubbornly Simple Scandinavian Solutions.

Great-Grandfather: A.Vainikka (1910-40s) Our great-grandfather laid the foundation of our legacy in Finland as a savvy businessman and real estate entrepreneur. His innovative spirit shone brightly following the Winter War when he saw an opportunity in surplus wool military uniforms. Transforming these into yarn, he embarked on a journey that led to the establishment of multiple women’s clothing stores. His resourcefulness and vision were not just about business; they were about seeing potential in the unexpected and repurposing with a purpose.

Grandfather: T. Vainikka 50-80s Our grandfather carried forward this legacy of innovation and craftsmanship after immigrating to the U.S. He founded and successfully ran a janitorial company, but his passion for creating lingered in his personal life. He was a skilled woodworker, spending hours hand-carving wooden toys and repurposing everyday materials like milk cartons and fabric into beautiful furniture and doll accessories. His work was a testament to the fact that creativity and resourcefulness know no bounds.

Father: G.Vainikka 80-10s The entrepreneurial spirit continued with our father, a talented sign maker. He had a unique flair for taking a concept from a simple napkin sketch to a fully realized installation. His work was more than just signs; it was about branding, storytelling, and making a lasting impression. He employed unique methods across various mediums, establishing a reputation for quality and creativity. His dedication to craftsmanship set a high standard for quality and ingenuity.

Son: A&A Vainikka 2010-current As the current torchbearers, we embarked on our journey in craftsmanship at a young age, collectively assisting and learning from our predecessors from an early age. This early experience, coupled with our Finnish heritage and the rich legacy of our ancestors, fueled not only my passion but also that of our team. Together, we established Finnbilt. Initially starting as a custom finish carpentry business, we quickly recognized a unique opportunity in the sauna market. This led to a shift in our focus towards sauna installations, refurbishing, and comprehensive design and build services. Our team takes immense pride in handcrafting custom saunas, using reclaimed materials, and adhering to the traditional Finnish sauna-building methods.     Hired Aaron for a small job to fix a cabinet. He was clear on the cost and the minimum job time. We came up with enough work to fill his time and he was friendly and very thorough in making sure all projects were done well. He replied quickly to the initial request for work, we discussed the work, he gave a time when he would be available. He came out in the stated time. I would recommend Finnbilt for others work and I would not hesitate to hire them again for my own.

    Recently we were in the market to do a make-over of our 1978 kitchen. We asked 3 contractors for bids to replace our cabinet doors and hinges, and to either reface or paint our existing boxes. Aaron, of Finnbilt, was so approachable and had wonderful ideas to make our remodel even better than we imagined. And, his quoted price was extremely reasonable. I must admit that we had our share of setbacks along the way, including our cabinet doors arriving the wrong color, and our laminate being lost by Home Depot. However, Aaron was extremely helpful in dealing with the cabinet door people, and even worked long hours to ensure our kitchen was completed before he left for vacation around Thanksgiving. we absolutely love our "new" kitchen. It is so much easier to find whatever we are looking for in our pull-out drawers. Although retrofitting our old cabinets turned out to be much more work than anticipated, Aaron stuck to his original quote when it came time to settle our bill. In addition, Aaron noticed water damage on our dining room table and took it upon himself to use a special spray, which virtually repaired the damage. We highly recommend Aaron, and Finnbilt, for whatever finish carpentry work you might require.
